How do I calibrate my sensor?
What is Calibration?
Calibration is the process used to maintain the accuracy of any device that provides a measurement within an acceptable range. The process in essence “teaches” the device to produce results that are more accurate than those that would occur otherwise.
Calibration also adjusts the readings to account for dust and particles that may accumulate on the sensor in addition to normal drift. To keep your valuables protected as best as possible, we recommend calibrating the Boveda Butler every 12 months. The sensors drift far less than a traditional hygrometer, yet each sensor is unique and proper calibration helps improve the accuracy of the readings.
How to Calibrate?
The One-Step Calibration Kit utilizes Boveda’s 75% relative humidity standard.
To begin the calibration, start with the 75% RH standard. Simply place your sensor inside the bag and close the zipper.
Navigate to the calibration page in the app by Selecting a Butler > Selecting the Settings button in the top right > Scrolling down and selecting “Calibrate Sensor”.
Following the App’s instructions to start the calibration, then allowing the Calibration Kit to sit for a minimum of 24 hours at room temperature, 65 to 80°F. The App will tell you when the 75% RH calibration has completed.
During the calibration process, If your sensor reads above or below 75% RH, the App will adjust the calibration value by the number of percentage points it is off from 75%, commonly called the offset. After calibration completes, inside the kit, a perfectly calibrated sensor will read 75%.
